One Night through Paris

Welcome to this new blog post! Have you ever wondered if it is possible to visit some of the most famous sights of a world-famous city in just a few hours? Yes, it is possible, and in this blog post I will show you how.

How did it come about?

At the beginning of 2022, I returned to Europe from my trip to the Caribbean. However, I had to stop by in Paris. Later in the afternoon I landed in Paris and the next day my flight left in the morning. I took the chance and explored Paris in the evening hours. This was my first time in Paris and I did not want to leave this opportunity unused. It was winter time, the temperatures were low and it also started to rain later in the evening. Nevertheless, it was worth it.

Visit the most famous sights of Paris in just a few hours

Here are my recommendations for places to visit if you only have a few hours. By the way, there are many parking garages in the city center, so you can easily drive into the city (I can recommend the parking garage „Saemes Parking Quai branly – Tour Eiffel“, it is just a few minutes walk from the Eiffel Tower). Optionally, you can use public transport to get to the city center.

The Eiffel Tower

First of all, probably the most famous sight: the Eiffel Tower. The tower was built for the World Exhibition in memory of the 100th. anniversary of the French Revolution. The Eiffel Tower is located near the shore of the Seine and it has a height of 330 meters. You can also buy tickets and go up the tower to have an amazing view of the french capital. But this building is also impressive when seen from below. During the winter time, there are often market stalls around the Eiffel Tower where you can buy warm drinks, food or souvenirs.

You should also not miss the Eiffel Tower light show, which takes place from sunset to 1 a.m. Every hour the lights of the Eiffel Tower sparkle for 5 minutes. By the way, you can only post photos taken of the light show on the internet with permission. The reason for this is copyright, because Pierre Bideau’s light show is considered a work of art. However, you can take photos for private use.

Palais de Chaillot and Jardins du Trocadéro

Opposite the Eiffel Tower, on the other side of the Seine, is the Palais de Chaillot. It is a beautiful building with various museums. In front of the Palais de Chaillot there is a large terrace from which you have one of the most famous views of the Eiffel Tower. The disadvantage is that usually there are a lot of tourists.

At the same place is a beautiful park located, the Jardins du Trocadéro. You can take a pleasant walk there and find some good photo spots.

Arc de Triomphe de l’Étoile

Another amazing sight in Paris is the Arc de Triomphe de l’Étoile. There is a second triumphal arch in the city, too, which we will come to shortly. It can be reached from the Palais de Chaillot in about half an hour on foot. It was built about 200 years ago and is one of the city’s landmarks. Under the triumphal arch lies the tomb of a soldier from the First World War. The Arc de Triomphe de l’Étoile is located in the middle of a large roundabout and can only be reached via an underpass. The building bears many inscriptions and significant reliefs.

Avenue des Champ Élysées

Several streets branch off from the Arc de Triomphe de l’Étoile. A very well-known one is the Avenue des Champ Élysées. You will find countless shops, hotels, restaurants and more along the 70-meter-wide avenue. Many luxury stores such as Dior and Louis Vuitton have also settled there. In winter, the trees along the street are decorated with fairy lights, creating a pleasant atmosphere. Due to the fame of the Avenue des Champ Élysées, there are also many people, even late in the evening. Still, you should not discard a visit.

Petit Palais, Place de la Concorde and Jardin des Tuileries

If you follow the Avenue des Champ Élysées, after a while you will arrive at the Petit Palais. This is an art museum and was the former exhibition pavilion of the World Exhibition held in Paris in 1900. A few minutes walk away is the Place de la Concorde. There are beautiful buildings and fascinating statues all around. Between the Place de la Concorde and the Louvre Museum is another large park, the Jardin des Tuileries.

Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel

In front of the Louvre there is another triumphal arch, the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel. It looks like a smaller version of the famous Arc de Triomphe de l’Étoile, which is located further northwest, also with many reliefs and a high of 18 meters. Napoleon I. had this triumphal arch built in the 1800s based on an arch in Rome.

Musée du Louvre and the Palais du Louvre

The Louvre Museum is worldwide known for its glass pyramid and paintings such as the Mona Lisa. The Louvre is one of the largest and most visited museums in the world. The museum houses, among other things, greek and roman antiquities and italian Renaissance paintings. You can find offers for private, public and even online tours. The Palais du Louvre is the large building around the glass pyramid and it served as the former residence of the french kings.

Parisian streets

Paris has special sights to offer, but the streets and alleys in the city center are no less admirable. There are many typical parisian cafes and impressive buildings. Almost every street has surprising things to offer. While walking through the streets of Paris, you feel a unique flair. The many bridges that cross the Seine also offer wonderful views.

Map

As a little additional overview, I have made a map with some sights that I can highly recommend if you only have a few hours in Paris. Feel free to take a look:
