Welcome to this new blog post! Let’s explore the border between the United States of America and Canada: the Niagara Falls. In this blog post you will find out more about these breathtaking waterfalls.
Between the borders
Located between the U.S. state of New York and the Canadian province of Ontario, these breathtaking waterfalls attract millions of tourists each year. The high visitor numbers make the falls one of North America’s most popular tourist attractions.

The Niagara Falls
The Niagara River connects Lake Erie with Lake Ontario. At the Niagara Falls, it plunges 187 feet (57 meters) at its deepest point. The falls are split into several parts by Goat Island and the smaller islands surrounding it.
The largest part, Horseshoe Falls, between the US and Canadian borders is the most famous. The other waterfalls are called American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls (the smallest waterfall), which are both located on US territory.
Niagara Falls State Park
You can find some parking lots at Niagara Falls State Park as well as on Goat Island. The latter is connected to the mainland by two bridges. For the complete experience, it is recommended parking on the mainland and walking to the island.
Niagara Falls State Park offers several great viewpoints, such as the Prospect Point Observation Point and the Niagara Falls Observation Tower. Both offer excellent views of the two waterfalls on the American side.

US side
Once you arrive on Goat Island, you should visit the most popular viewpoint: Terrapin Point. However, it tends to get crowded. It is recommended to go early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid large crowds.
In sunny weather, a small rainbow forms at the waterfalls, which can be easily seen and photographed from that perspective. However, the most breathtaking and famous view of the falls is from the other side. So, off to Canada!

Between two countries
Don’t forget your passport, because we’re leaving the US and making a quick detour to Canada. A short walk across the Rainbow International Bridge and you’re in another country. In the middle of the bridge are the flags of the USA and Canada. A small sign reading „International Boundary Line“ is right between the flags.
From the bridge you have a perfect overview. Both the American and Canadian sides as well as the Niagara Falls in the middle, which separate the two countries, are in one picture.

Canadian side
Arriving on the other side in the city of the same name, „Niagara Falls“, the Fallsview Trail leads past the Queen Victoria Park to the Table Rock Welcome Centre, from where you can enjoy the famous view of the Niagara Falls. However, at this point, which is closest to the waterfalls, there are quite a lot of people around to take the best photos.
If you want to get even closer to the Niagara Falls, you can either book a boat tour or a „Journey Behind the Falls“. But even without booking an additional tour, it is a unique experience to see this breathtaking natural spectacle with your own eyes. Don’t miss it, this place should definitely be on your travel bucket list!
Since you are already in Canada, after observing the Niagara Falls you can take a little walk in the city and experience the flair of Canada.
